Circular Seam Welding Stations

Syn-Ergomachines offers circular seam welding stations for automatic welding of circular joints. By using these, a number of components like pipes and shells can be rotated during welding. The size of the assemblies may range from small stainless steel instrument-fittings to large maraging steel rocket-motor casings. Headstock manipulators and circular seam welding systems have been commonly used for the manufacture of sterile stainless steel pipe-fittings for bio-process, and shells for pressure-vessels respectively. The objective of automation is to economically maintain consistent quality at a high productivity level by de-skilling the welding operation. The system features fine control of heat input and rotation, positioning of head, control of distortion and saving of costly inert gas. In conventional technique the welder works hazardously due to proximity with the welding zone, height from floor, poor supports, awkward body posture, and long arcing times. Using the circular seam welding station, the operator is safely away while viewing the welding zone remotely to control the head position. The welding processes employed are: pulsed-TIG for thin sections, normal TIG for intermediate thickness, and MIG for fillup of heavy walls. Multiple heads can be deployed simultaneously to improve the productivity further. The company offers a wide range of modules selected to suit the application and desired level of automation. Also available are orbital pipe welding systems (for non-rotatable circular seams), longitudinal seam welding station and other custom built SPMs.
