Mumbai-based Orbital Systems (Bombay) offers the Tog-L-Loc sheet metal joining system, which joins sheet metals, extrusions and formed metal components. It combines the simplicity and economy of a mechanical clinch with the integrity of an impervious and fatigue-resistant leakproof joint, according to the manufacturers. Steel, aluminium, brass and other metals, including coated and painted stock, can be joined without fasteners of any kind. Thickness from 2 layers x 0.2 mm up to a combined total thickness of 6 mm can be joined with readily available standard tooling in a single press stroke; a tool life of 200,000 joints is common, the firm says. The system is used in the automotive industry and in the manufacture of domestic appliances. Other applications range from the assembly of office furniture and equipment, such as metal desks and cabinets, to the manufacture of components for the electrical and construction industries.
