It is possible to achieve bore geometry better than 0.5 m with surface finishes under 0.1 Ra in many materials including hardened steel at production rates up to 360 pieces per hour. Diamond bore finishing systems are capable of holding size control in production to better than 1m with near perfect repeatability. Single-pass diamond tools wear very slowly in production, which allows for tool life to exceed 100,000 parts in many applications, typically bringing consumable tool cost under Rs 0.45 per finished part. The simple nature of the process eliminates the need for highly skilled operators. In very high volume applications a simple robot integrated into the system can allow one operator to oversee multiple systems finishing thousand or parts per hour.
