Hypertherm, the world leader in plasma arc metal cutting technology, has previewed a new modular computer numeric controller (CNC) – the Edge® Pro – Beijing Essen Welding and Cutting Fair, held in Shanghai in June 2009. The new Hypertherm Edge Pro offers substantial advancements over the Edge II that is used widely worldwide. Specifically, Edge Pro is a ‘plug and play’ CNC that is compatible with almost any mechanised system on the market. There is no need for an intermediary device in order to run and operate the Edge Pro. The system is easy to install, easy to use, and more reliable than any other CNC. And as a modular device, Edge Pro can support oxyfuel applications as well as conventional plasma cutting systems, serving as a single solution across various application needs. It features hardware and software advancements that are not yet available on other devices in the marketplace. The Edge Pro offers both analog and Sercos motion control connectivity in a single turnkey solution. This includes a touch screen display and an integrated operator’s console. The system was carefully designed to withstand thousands of hours of reliability testing in adverse conditions. This ensures it will be able to survive the harsh cutting table environment, regardless of application. Edge Pro also comes pre-installed with Hypertherm’s innovative Phoenix® software, including the patent pending CutPro™ Wizard, and built in cut optimisation guides to simplify learning and operation of the entire cutting system.
