In steel, speeds of 70 m/min and feeds of 0.35/rev are possible. They produce holes with quality dimensional tolerance, surface finish and quality positional tolerance. In many instances, they eliminate hole milling and reaming operations. Oversize conditions at less than 0.2% of drill dia (maximum oversize 0.04) and surface finish in the order of 1-3 m is obtained. They eject short, easily manageable chips overcoming the swarf problems on unmanned machining systems. TiN coated by PVD method greatly increases the drill life. They leave very small burrs, and provide very long tool life even on difficult to cut materials.
