Indexable-Insert Threadmill 1/4" Diameter

Carboloy Inc, has introduced a single-pocket indexable-insert threadmill specially designed to produce the popular 1/4" diameter, 18 NPIT internal thread form. Little bigger than a standard 1/4" diameter threadmill, the special-design cutter is applied using a drilled starter hole that is only 0.433" in diameter very small for threadmilling. Its capabilities have been fully production-proven in extensive field testing. Until now, only solid-carbide threadmilis and taps have been available to generate the thread form. Compared to solid-carbide threadmills, the Carboloy indexable-insert threadmill design is said to offer substantial cost savings. It is available at about half the initial cost and never needs resharpening-a requirement with solid-carbide threadmills that sometimes involves long lead times and also program changes because of the reduced tool diameter. Further, unlike the solid-carbide tool, which provides for only a limited number of regrinds, the indexable-insert threadmill offers indefinite performance life, consuming only replaceable inserts. The insert used is a 13 XM, 18 NPT threadmilling insert in CP50 PVD-coated cutting grade. This versatile grade provides excellent performance and tool life in applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high temperature alloy materials. Compared to taps used to produce the 1/4" diameter, 18 NPT thread form, the indexable insert used with the new Carboloy threadmill will produce about twice the number of threaded holes, with superior thread quality. This is especially true of applications in high temperatures alloys, where tapping operations frequently produce chip jamming and recutting that can damage thread flanks.
