The Mitsubishi M-VS17A-KR combines extreme accuracy with a special control system featuring special software designed to meet the special needs of the mouldmaking and diemaking industries. Among its many benefits, the machine reduces-and in many cases totally eliminates-time consuming benchwork to produce exceptional finishes. The high speed feed control unit developed for the M-VS17A-KR focuses on extreme accuracy. With virtual zero servo error, the Mitsubishi-Fanuc KR-32D high speed feed control function employs a modified, inverse-transfer function data processing method for advanced accuracy control. To do this, the feed control function reads the conventional NC function data in advance of the servoamplifier, calculates the effects of inertia and servo response on the tool path at the desired feed rate, and issues new data to compensate for the error. The machine feed rate is optimized so that workpieces with varying form-such as dies and moulds-can be machined without gouges and overshoot drops. Additionally, a smoothing function is utilized to generate a cubic expression curve from four points. functions combine to provide high speed, high accuracy machining at a cutting feed rate of 8,000 mm per minute (315 ipm). For fast material removal with great precision, this milling machine features an 8,000 RPM spindle driven by a 26 kW (35-HP) heavy-duty motor, providing 33.7 kgF-m (244 foot-pounds) of torque up to 750 RPM. The spindle is housed in a long nose type spindle head--400 mm (16") long x 230 mm (9") face diameter--allowing heavy-duty milling within the entire machining range using crossrail movement. The result is that, with two-motor synchronous feed crossrail movement, any part of any workpiece can be easily accessed and machined. Other important elements of the machine include Mitsubishi"s Z-axis automatic thermal distortion compensation system and highly accurate Mitsubishi precision inductive scales, a table size of 1,300 mm x 3,000 mm with a load capacity of ten tons, and a standard automatic toolchanger.
