Gantry Style Mill Built For Accuracy

The Medve gantry milling machine has been designed and built to optimize the capabilities of metal removal and accuracy, says the builder. By moving the cutting tool around the workpiece, weight is not a limiting factor; therefore the entire machining envelope can be utilized. The only forces to be contended with are from the cutter. Due to the practical design of the machine, maintenance is minimised. Structural integrity has been maximized throughout the construction by selecting castings for each requirement through finite analysis. The double rail design includes two precision ballscrews driven independently and calibrated by scales on each base to enhance accuracy. Addition of the Lemoine Real Time Control system creates a high-speed machining centre.
