Vertical Honing Machine

Computer controlled for precision performance, the CK-21 is a third generation Sunnen vertical honing machine. Its totally new design incorporates a microprocessor based control system. It allows the CK-21 to size and finish bores faster and more accurately than less technologically advanced mechanical equipment. The CK-21 allows to completely control all aspects of the honing cycle. Adjustment is possible of spindle speeds, stroke speeds, feed rates, stone wear compensation, size control and bore geometry at any point in the cycle. The control unit displays a cycle counter and a cycle timer to monitor the throughput. A key feature of the CK-21 is a patent pending bore profile display which projects a real time graphical display of the bore cross section to within tenths (several microns) depending on the scale chosen during setup. Another key feature is a two-stage honing cycle which allows to use two different spindle speeds and feed rates during one honing cycle. This is particularly helpful in obtaining fast stock removal (using the high speed and feed rate) while still maintaining precise geometry (using the slower speed and feed rate) in a shorter, more productive cycle. The CK-21 also features a spart-out mode in which the hone head operates for a specified time at the end of a cycle. During this time, there is no cutting force, resulting in improved surface finish and bore geometry. Sizeloc is another superior feature of the new CK-21. It lets lock-in the diameter after the honing of a bore to the desired size. Then, subsequently bores are automatically honed to this same diameter.
