LAPPING MEDIUM FOR FINISHING OF HARD MATERIALS

Boron Carbide (India) offers Carbolap, a lapping medium for finishing of hard materials. Interesting characteristics of Carbolap: it is the most inexpensive lapping medium available for the finishing of hard materials and hardened steels, principally because of the extreme hardness of the Vajrabor boron carbide from which the Carbolap paste is made using a petroleum products based proprietary composition. Coarser meshes remove material faster, but give rise to greater surface roughness. Thus the quality of the surface achieved depends on the mesh size utilised. Applications: wire drawing industry, sugar industry, thermal power stations, automobile industry and lapping and finishing of various components. Boron carbide powders are manufactured under licence from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
