Selective Laser Melting Machine

Renishaw launched at the EMO Hannover (September 19-24, 2011) a Selective Laser Melting Machine, Model SLM250. Following its recent purchase of MTT Technologies Ltd, Renishaw will used the opportunity provided by EMO Hannover to highlight its new range of additive manufacturing technologies. On display was the SLM250 Selective Laser Melting (SLM) machine, which utilises a pioneering, additive manufacturing process capable of producing fully dense metal parts direct from 3D CAD, using a high-powered fibre laser. Parts are built from a range of fine metal powders that are fully melted in a tightly controlled atmosphere, in layer thicknesses ranging from 20 to 100 microns. Apart from the Selective Laser Melting Machine, Model SLM250, Renishaw also highlighted a range of process control solutions that help tackle the increasing drive to lean manufacturing, from new technologies for pre-process machine calibration, to on-line and off-line post-process measurement. A new range of additive manufacturing technologies and the latest incremental and absolute encoder systems was also on display at EMO Hannover 2011, the biggest machine tools industry show on earth.
