Vmcs Feature Large Travels

The new Haas VF-7 and VF-9 vertical machining centres provide the largest travels available on C-frame vertical machining centres, says t builder. The VF-7 has a travel range of 84"by 32"by 30"and the VF-9 has a range of 84"by 40"by 30". They are intended to be an economical solution for large parts such as engine blocks and mould bases. Published accuracy is ?0.0002"for both machines and repeatability is -+0.0001". Linear glass scales are available as an option. A 15-HP motor with a two-speed gearbox is standard, and drives an oil cooled spindle up to speeds of 7,500 R-PM. The machines' 40-taper tools are held in a 20 pocket toolchanger, and an optional 32-pocket toolchanger is available. Tool-to-tool changes take about five seconds. The machines feature a load-sensing chip conveyor which automatically reverses should a jam occur. The control is built by Haas and has two 32-bit processors, is Fanuc compatible, and has a program execution speed of up to 1,000 blocks per second. It offers a number of Haas "OneTouch"features that speed machine operation. For example, a single "power-up"command automatically turns the power on, homes all axes, picks up the number-one tool and loads it into the spindle. "QuickCode"is another capability that aids programming and editing. While the left side of the CNC display shows G-code, the right side displays a description of the opreration in plain English. As the operator selects the correct command from the descriptions, the proper code is automatically inserted into the part program.
