Linear Motion Guide Actuators

Linear Actuators have been produced considering the industry need for having a compact and quick incorporation of the linear system and ease in motion system design. The linear actuator becomes a prepackaged linear system hardware module which would then require only the design of the requisite driving force (of a motor).
So, instead of first choosing the type of LM guide; then the type of ball screw or belt; then designing the mounting plate where each component will be placed, all one needs to do is to choose the appropriate actuator and then go on to select the motor, while designing a linear motion system.

Types of Linear Actuators
KR (Integrated Ball Screw LM Guide Design)
THK's KR actuator design is that of an integrated structure of an LM Guide and a Ball screw. The ball screw nut has a dual role as it also becomes the block for the LM rail. The outer side of the nut block has 4 rows of circular arc grooves for ball movement even under a preload condition. This integrated structure provides a highly accurate and rigid system that is compact too. They are available in 4 configurations with either a single or double; long or short nut. This type of actuator is also available with the new Caged Ball Technology, where balls are placed in a closed belt like cage so that they don't touch each other. This technology ensures a low noise system with a long maintenance free service life.

GL-N (LM Guide Actuator)
THK's GL-N actuator is literally the packaged LM guide system that comes with 2 LM guides mounted on both sides and either a ball screw or a timing belt in the middle. The LM guides are Caged Ball Guides (SHS or SSR model) and the actuator also contains QZ lubricator. They ensure a smooth and silent operation, and a long service life. GL-N actuators come in different motor placement configurations viz. Direct mounting (motor is connected straight to the shaft of the screw), Lateral wrap-around (the screw shaft is connected to a lateral pulley system and motors are connected on the left and right side of the actuator) and Bottom wrap-around (screw shaft is connected to a perpendicular pulley system and motor is placed below the actuator)

VLA (Low Cost Actuator)
VLA actuators are the Low Cost actuators manufactured by THK. These contain THK's miniature SRS Caged Ball guide. VLA is an electrical alternative for pneumatic cylinders. These come in the Sliding type design and the Cylindrical type design. VLA Slide type can be used in place of Rodless cylinders while the cylindrical type can replace the normal round pneumatic cylinders thereby reducing oil mist and provide a cleaner environment and working conditions.

SERO (High Speed Actuator)
SERO actuators are belt driven actuators supported by Speed Guide for linear motion. These are lightweight, high speed modules constructed of an aluminum body in combination with a precision linear shaft and slider. Belt tension is easily adjusted by an adjustment screw. Clearance can be adjusted easily and a smooth, quiet operation is guaranteed. Length of the actuator can go up to 4m without joints (6m available as special order). It can achieve a speed of 8 m/s and running accuracy of 0.08mm/m. These are used widely in Fast Pick and Place Robots, Wood Working Machines, Packaging Machines, Printing Machines, Welding Machines, Textile and Paper Shearing Machines, etc.
