The patent pending survivor dead centres feature through-the-tool lubrication in conjunction with raised, radially-ground, carbide-bearing supports. A burnishing action takes place where the centre hole conforms to the centre. An optional tool pocket can be provided so that a centre-supported workpiece can be faced and turned down to smaller than the existing centre hole, permitting corrections if the centre hole was drilled too deep or a shoulder too log.
