Leadscrew Tapping Unit Capable Of Class 3 Thread Accuracy

Sugino"s 3-HP Synchro Tapper is capacity of Class 3 thread accuracy throughout continous, high speed production operations. The Model STE Synchro-Tapper compliments a1/2-HP and 1-HP lead screw tapping unit already available in Sugino"s line. Tapping capacity for the unit is up to 1-3/8" in steel and to 3/4" NPT threads in aluminium at 110 RPM spindle speed. Maximum spindle speed is 420 RPM with intermediate spindle speeds of 310 RPM and 210 RPM. Spindle speeds are varied by an easy and quick change of pulleys. The heavy-duty STE unit boasts an adjustable stroke length from 0.75" to 4.0". Stroke length is controlled by internal limit switches. Threading capability extends from 8 to 28 tpi with thread pitch ranging from 0.03125" (0.8 mm) to 1.378" (3.50 mm). Feed rate and tap rotation are synchronized and result in the production of Class 3 thread accuracy. A powerful 3-HP AC induction motor is controlled by an AC frequency inverter that provides a "soft" starting of the motor to reduce torque and noise during normal starting forward rotation, or during switching to the reverse spindle rotation. An electrical thermal relay protects the unit against overload during the complete tapping cycle.ne STE Synchro-Tapper features preset second reference point at the beginning and end of the tapping cycle. Set by the machine tool builder or by the machine operator, the second reference point can be used to eliminate the full extension and/or retraction of the spindle at the beginning or at the end of the tapping cycle. The STE is a compact unit measuring 28" x 12" x 19" (L x W x H) and weighs 290 lbs. It operates on 220-volt or 460-volt AC current. Its motor-overbody design is said to make the STE Synchro-Tapper ideally suited for machine tool builders who are looking for maximum tapping power from a limited space.
