Drum Type Automatic Tool Changer For Vertical Spindle Machines

An eight-tool (15 tools optional) capacity drum type tool changing system which stores Cat 40/50/60 tools for vertical spindle machines includes storage for eight (15) tools and a bi-directional shortest path indexing drum. A two-position liner slide moves the tool drum into and out of the tool exchange area. A single-pocket index takes under 1.4 seconds and a full 180 degree index takes under 2.5 seconds. Tools up to 100 lbs are held under spring tension in the tool holder assembly. Application areas include standalone machine tools, flexible transfer lines for OEM and retrofit applications.
