Carbide & Hss Countersinks

Shiballoy offers carbide and HSS countersinks with 1, 4 and 6 flutes in carbide and high speed steel in sizes from 1/8"to 3"and many centreline angles. Countersinks are used to: (1) Modify a hole opening and produce an angular, bevel, taper form, and (2) Chamfer the edges of a hole with drills (hand-held and machine), milling machines, lathes, chuckers, and automats. They are also useful to chamfer the edges of a part by linear or circular interpolation with milling machines, and pentographs. When machining hard or abrasive materials, carbide countersinks give 10 times the life of high speed steel tools. In automated production operations, where cost of changing a tool can exceed the cost of tool, using long-running carbide is economical. Standard countersinks are available with 1, 4 or 6 flutes. A 6-flute countersink removes more material per revolution than a 4-flute or singleflute countersink. While the single-flute countersink is slow cutting, it works well in a non-rigid machining setup; 4 flutes provide more chip clearance than 6-flutes. A 6-flute countersink gives more service life than the 4-flute tool because the cutting load is distributed over more edges. Resonant vibration is the cause of chatter in rotating cutting tools. Shiballoy countersinks are designed with staggered cutting edges, which inhibit the occurrence of resonant or harmonic vibration. Countersinks with drills, steps, pilots, radii, as well as for NC and CNC and preset machine tools are also available.
