CNC shaving cutter grinder, Model RSB 18, is a latest development in shaving cutter grinding technology that applies profile generation. This is obtained by the interpolation of software that co-ordinates the rectilinear movement of the traverse carriage with the rotational movement of the workhead. A rotation translation movement is generated, fully adjustable in terms of rolling diameter, hence pitch blocks are eliminated. The same motor that generates rolling also indexes, and both movements are numerically controlled. Digital technology linear motors have been chosen and greater machine stability achieved, thanks to the use of polymeric cement within the new concept base. The following advantages have been derived: the maximum rolling speed is now higher, bringing an overall cycle time saving; dynamic gain (KV) achieved on the traverse carriage and on the workpiece axis are about 3 to 5 times greater than those found with traditional motors coupled with transmissions of a mechanical type; reduced and easier maintenance requirements; and use of direct measuring systems offering 0.1 micron resolution. The RSB 18 dresser is of a modern concept with better performance. The design cuts down dressing time significantly. Further five different dressing operations are all run by software options which the operator can request on the NC control, ie, active profile, undercut, outside diameter, reduction of wheel tip and wheel back thickness. It can be fitted with a telephone modem for teleservice assistance.
