This machine tool grinds wire which is longer than the wheels are wide, down to 0.002" in diameter, and because of its programming and NC capabilities, 15 different tapers can be generated on the wire. The system based on the Model TG-12 x 3 Hi-Accuracy system incorporates a stepping motor, precision roll screw, and anti-fricion ways for accurate machine movements. This new system, the fourth generation, incorporates an industrial 486/DX2 computer with 32 MB of RAM, mounted on a swing arm. The Windows format machine control prompts the operator through operation of the system. If questions arise, there are help screens for pictorial and verbal instructions. The wire entrance rail which tracks the end of the wire to initiate machinery movements is outfitted with 64 Keyence fibre optic eye with remote settings. The eyes are spaced every 0.250"/6.35 mm for closer tolerances on linear dimensions and tapers. Diameter, taper and length alterations will be made with a simple keystroke or click of the mouse button. This flexible system is capable of grinding a wide variety of diameter and taper combinations. The high speed wire retraction system removes the wires from the wheel area and deposits them in convenient receptacles.
