Slotting Cutter Families With Heliquad Milling Inserts

Slotting cutters with helical cutting edges from the ISCAR milling family cover the diameter range of 80 to 250 mm (3- 10") and widths of cut of 8 to 25 mm (0.3-1.00"). Two main families of cutters are offered. The first are cutters with reguar arbor holes to fit on standard adapters for CNC machines, which have a flat bottom. The second are disk-shaped slotting cutters with a hub for standard clamping on shafts. In the first family, three slotting cutter types using the various Heliquad inserts are included; FDN slot milling, double-sided cutters (neutral) designed to machine full, double-sided slots; FSD half-sided cutters with inserts on the bottom side (face side); and FST half-sided slotting-cutters with inserts machining only on top side (rear side). The strong cutter design enables all types to have a fine-pitch design, which means a higher number of inserts. The gullet improves swarf exhaust in spite of the fine pitch. Due to the larger number of inserts compared to the competing cutters with adjustable cartridges and fewer inserts, the metal removal rate is much higher. In the second family, two main types are included: double-sided SDN designed for machining on both sides, and single-sided SSB (or SST) for right-handed and left-handed applications. In the small diameter Size range of 80 to 125 mm (3-5 "), the Heliquad XOMT 0602 insert with the maximum 10 mm (0.39") width of cut are offered. The insert has four cutting edges: two edges can be mounted in right-handed directions and two in left-handed directions. The cutters in the diameter range of 125 to 200 mm (5-9") and width of cut between 10 to 18 mm (0.38-0.75") use the large Heliquad XPMT 1004 or the economical, symmetric QPMT 1004 inserts with four identical comers which can be used for right-handed and left-handed directions. For larger widths up to 20 mm (0.8") and cutters of 100 to 250 mm (4- 10") diameters, the symmetric QDMT 1205 inserts with four cutting edges are used. In cases of even larger widths of cut up to 25 mm (1.0"), the HeliMILL ADKT 1505 right-handed and left-handed inserts are used.
