PCD cutters, high speed light weight

Forbes Gokak offers Galtona make PCD milling cutter. This is a versatile, lightweight, cartridge type-milling cutter primarily designed for machining of non-ferrous metals using steel cartridges tipped with polycrystalline diamond. Brazing PCD directly to the steel cartridge has advantage in accuracy, security and tool life over the same PCD attached to a small insert. It is estimated that due to number of re-laps, this type of arrangement gives around two to three times the life of tool over conventionally used PCD insert type cutters. Galtona cutters are designed with lower radial and axial rake angles to give a cutting edge that is less prone to the damage. The bodies of these cutters are made from aerospace grade aluminium and shaped to minimise weight while maintaining ample strength. Through coolant to each cutting tip is incorporated as a standard feature. To achieve high speeds, core design criteria is adapted and all loose sub components, such as clamping and adjusting wedges, have been eliminated. The cutting speed attainable is to the order of 5500 m/min with feed per tooth as high as 0.25 mm. All cutter assemblies are dynamically balanced to ensure smooth and vibration free cutting.
