Komet Precision Tools India Private Limited, a leader in machining bores, head quartered at Bangalore have come out with KUB Quatron, a new insert drill. Launched during IMTEX 2001, the KUB Quatron drills have two extremely rigid square inserts with four useable cutting edges with optimum chip clearance. The high overall rigidity of the KUB Quatron guarantees a highly accurate bore in both dimension and direction and also allows feed rates, which are up to 50 percent higher. The surface finishes that this achieves are of excellent quality with no withdrawal grooves. The KUB Quatron can be used universally up to boring depths of 2x D and has proved successful for dealing with extreme technical situations such as for forging burrs, angled castings, rolling skin and interrupted cut. KUB Quatron can be supplied with a combination to DIN 6535 HE and 6595. With the ABS 50 connection, the KUB Quatron can be supplied on request within four weeks. The drill is suitable for stationary and rotating applications. The square carbide inserts with four fully useable cutting edges combined with maximum rigidity in the carrier body guarantees the highest degree of machining reliability and economy. They not only demonstrate an extremely high performance but also because of their four cutting edges they can also be used economically on special boring tools and stepped tools. The interplay between the cutting edge geometry, chip guide step and approach angle on the inserts means that the chip fractures in a defined way. The inserts can be used both as a centre cutting edge and on the periphery. Three insert sizes, 2 geometries and 4 cutting material grades will initially cover a diameter range of 14-26 mm and almost all boring tasks. The latest coating reduces friction and when combined with tough substrates with a high tensile strength, guarantee maximum tool life. Following are the models available in KUB Quatron - BK1, BK69, BK79 and BK84. Advantages of using these drills are that the production reliability is increased and secondly bore production costs were to some extent reduced because of the longer tool life.
