Vertical Machining Centre

The Vertical Machining Centre, VM-50 has high spindle speed and high rapid traverse rate. The acceleration time of 0.15 second to reach maximum feed rate permits cutting feed rates up to 15 m/min. These features superimposed on a high precision machine contribute to achieving the best results in tool room applications also for productive machining of moulds, dies and other high precision parts. Hitachi Seiki have also developed High Speed High Precision Control specialised software, which helps to control the acceleration/deceleration of the slides while machining critical profiles. An outstanding feature of the VM series machining centres is the unique mechanical construction of the machine. The machine has an integrated double column construction. This design provides the robustness typically seen in large double column machines. Compared to a normal C frame construction, which incorporates a cross-slide for the X and Y-axes movements, the VM machine, due to its unique design separates these two axes slides, thus greatly improving the rigidity. This design also ensures that the table and milling head carriage are fully supported throughout their travel with no overhang. The ram type milling head construction ensures the least overhang between the spindle centreline and the Z-axis guideways as compared to traditional C frame construction. This results in overall better rigidity. In line with the current machining centre technologies, the HITACHI VM features a built-in motor for the main spindle.
