Coatec India manufactures CNC profile cutting systems in all four types. Laser: a technology that uses a laser to cut materials, works by directing the output of a high power laser at the material to be cut. The material then melts, burns, vaporises away, or is blown away by a jet of gas, leaving an edge with a high quality surface finish. Plasma: a process that is used to cut steel and other metals using a plasma torch. In this process, a gas (in some cases, compressed air) is blown at high speed out of a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed through that gas from the nozzle to the surface being cut, turning some of that gas to plasma. The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the cut. Waterjet: used for cutting of not only metals but also non-metals like granite, marble, bakelite, ceramic, cloth and practically anything which does not get damaged by getting wet. Recent advances have introduced abrasive in the water stream further increasing the speed of cut. This process scores over both laser and plasma as there is simply no heat input in the cutting process. Oxy Fuel: the oldest process, but the traditional oxy fuel torch is replaced by a mechanised torch with the gas flow and valves controlled by the CNC. This torch is mounted on the similar 2½ axes system. This is still used extensively for cutting very thick metal substrates which cannot be cut with plasma or laser economically.
