Steel Plant

The Jain Group marks its presence in steel through Jain Steel & Power Limited. JSPL is setting up an integrated steel plant in two phases at Jharsuguda in Orissa with an aggregate capacity of 0.3 MTPA. The first phase comprises of a sponge iron plant (DRI plant) of 1,10,000 TPA, captive power plant (CPP) of 8 MW and a steel melt shop of 80,000 TPA capacity. While the DRI unit has already commenced operations, the 8 MW CPP unit is under commissioning the SMS unit is expected to commence operations shortly. In phase II, JSPL plans to set up a MBF, rolling mill, and a coal washery besides expansion of SMS and DRI units. It will also set up another CPP of 24 MW. JSPL has signed a ‘MOU’ with the Government of Orissa in which the state government agrees to assist in obtaining iron ore. Coal linkage with MCL has been executed. The sponge iron production will have a forward integration into value added products like billets and bars.
