Extruder for Producing Pregel/Modified Starch

Malik Engineers offers Extruder suitable for producing Pregelatinised/modified starch derived from maize (corn), cassava, potato, wheat, rice, etc. Native starch derived from natural source does not possess desirable properties for many applications, and is also cold water insoluble. But when it is precooked and chemically modified, it becomes useful in variety of applications like Food industry, paper, construction, confectionery, adhesives, pharmaceutical, and many more. The starch to be cooked and modified is first mixed with all ingredients and added moisture (water) in a suitable Blender Mixer and then shifted to the Extruder. In the Cooker Extruder, the starchy ingredients are cooked at elevated temperature & pressure. In addition to being cooked, the starch may be chemically modified and the naturally occurring molecular chain altered to provide several useful properties. The Extruder does this because it has specially profiled screw rotating at high speed inside the grooved barrel to provide the necessary friction and shear necessary for cooking the materials as well as carry out the desired modification. The action of the screw mixes the ingredients homogenously and assures uniform cooking of ingredients and high bulk density of product. A cutter with blades mounted at the end of Extruder cuts the emerging cooked product, into small lengths, which are dried in dryer to remove excess moisture from the product. Final step is finish grinding on Milling Equipment to get powdered Pregelatinised/Modified starch. This starch is cold water-soluble. It is desirable to use native starch with high Amylopectine content for good results.
