Pondicherry-based U K Gems is a pioneer in the manufacture of ozone based water and air purification systems. These air and water purification systems are based on ozone technology, which is familiar in advanced countries. Studies have reported the ozone is an ideal purification and disinfecting agent. In fact, ozone has always appeared to be the powerful and perfect disinfectant as it kills E coli bacteria in less than 100 seconds. Ozone can treat any type of portable water even if the water contains turbidity and can remove algae, smell and colour. Ozone is 3000 times more effective than chlorine. It is also effective in killing chlorine resisting pathogen such as cysts. Most importantly, ozone based water purification system helps store purified water, destroying bacteria and spores. The special advantage in is it can purify stored water. The models available are with capacities ranging from 50 litres to 250 litres. These units are tested at IIT Chennai, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand and SGS, Chennai.
