Francis Klein introduces the latest SS 2000 Series translator drive from Superior Electric, USA, a division of Warner, with a matching DC stepper motor from Slo-Syn, USA. The stepper motor drive accepts pulse and direction signal (digital input) from any microprocessor. Depending on the drive one can go from 200 full steps/rev up to 50,000 steps/rev. Due to the use of MOSFET and IGBT devices, there is no decay in torque vs speed curve up to 1,000 RPM. The drive has switch selectable current. All the drives have optically isolated inputs and reduced current/winding off capability. The drive can be used with 4 lead, 6 lead and 8 lead motor. The input power to the drive can be 24 V DC to 60 V DC or single phase 115 V AC/230 V AC, 50 Hz input. Heat sink is provided with the drive depending on the current. Due to single source matched supply of the drive and motor, the machine manufacturer or the end user is assured of the performance. Microstepping is used typically for low speed applications at which there are chances of motor stalling or vibration. Microstepping is not to be used for higher resolution unless feed back system is used. The application areas are machine tools, X Y tables, drilling machines, packaging machines, dosing machines, printing machines,
