Linear Motor Technology

The electromagnetic force that produces torque in rotary motors also produces direct linear force in a linear motor. These linear motors are like a rotary motor whose stator and rotor have been cut along a radial plane and unrolled so that it provides linear thrust. The result is a flat linear motor. The linear motor can generate a force upto 8900 Newtons, can speed up to 50m/sec with acceleration up to 10 g"s. The application would be from general motion to submicron high accuracy positioning. Linear motors are available in following types: linear stepper motor, dual axis stepper motor, position verification sensor, DC brush linear motors, brushless linear motor, DC non-commutated motors and AC induction linear motors.
