The Indian Electric Co offers Energy Efficient Motors from Siemens, the first company in India to launch the full range of IE2 and IE3 motors conforming to the new Indian standard IS 12615: 2011 for energy efficient motors. The standard covers ratings from 0.37 kW to 375 kW in 2, 4 and 6 poles. These efficiency classes are in line with global IEC standard IEC 60034-30. Electric motors use more than 2/3rd of the energy consumed by industries. The new IE2 and IE3 efficiency class motors, as compared to the non IE motors available in the market, offer substantial savings in energy. In India if all new motors manufactured were of IE3 efficiency category, India could save more than 5 billion kWh of energy. This is equivalent to energy produced by a 600 MW power plant. The energy saved without actual generation can help reduce 4 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum and our dependency on fossil fuels. This also leads to energy saving without actual generation thereby reducing investments of about Rs 3500 crore.
