Abrasive Cutting Solution

3M India has introduced Cubitron TM II, a new abrasive mineral technology for the Indian metal working industry. The solution enables faster cutting, cooler grinding, and lasts longer. Introduced by the 3M Abrasive Systems Division, the Cubitron TM II was developed using the company's three core technology platforms. The Cubitron TM II is made out of ceramic aluminium oxide – triangle shaped grains in the form of belts or discs that divert heat to the metal filings, keeping both the workpiece and the belt cooler. They are also engineered to grind cooler, thus eliminating metal discolouration. Cubitron TM II has been developed based on the precision shaped grain technology (PSG) that enables each grain to self sharpen for extended cut life. Each mineral in Cubitron TM II is designed in such a way that it breaks along while it grinds, thus providing a constant cutting edge and material removal rate during its lifespan, in the absence of heat. This contributes to the increase in productivity, finer finish, moderate grinding and capital costs, minimises waste disposal and decreased surface reworking, thus value adding at each step of the manufacturing operation.
