Inverter

Batteries store energy in the form of chemical energy. Batteries have low DC voltage such as 12 V or 24 V but can deliver large DC current. The household appliances require 230 VAC (RMS) with 50 Hz frequency. Inverters perform two major functions: convert this low DC battery voltage to 230 V / 50 Hz AC for long life of the appliances, when utility power is absent. When utility power is present, the inverter charger charges the batteries at optimal rate.
