ExxonMobil Lubricants offers Water Soluble Cutting Fluids. These have to be robust in their design. Mobil water soluble cutting fluids: resist bacterial attack, are safe to use and are triazine and chlorine free, cool and lubricate the work piece and the tool, prevent corrosion to the workpiece and machine, mix with a wide variety of water qualities. Slideway lubrication is the major source of oil contamination in cutting fluids because it is a `total loss’ process and is seen, as oil floating on the surface of the cutting fluid. If this oil is not removed it will result in bacterial growth and bad smells, a common problem. To prevent bad smells the slideway oil should be removed regularly.
