Lubrication System, Grease/Oil

Schaeffler has launched a compact Lubrication System – FAG Concept Precision Grease or Oil – for accurate and efficient lubrication of spindle bearings. Current high-performance greases allow spindle bearings to be lubricated safely and economically over long periods of time, even when running at very high speeds. For this reason, the majority of main spindles are lubricated with grease. The FAG Concept Precision Grease system is designed specifically for the demands of main spindles with respect to the volume dispensed on each stroke. Grease-filled hoses are connected to the outlets and form the actual lubricant reservoir for relubrication. The cartridge contains only pressure oil, which is pumped into the hoses during lubrication. The grease and pressure medium are kept apart by a ball in the hose. The system provides 0.025 cm³ per stroke and supply line. The grease is under pressure only during the relubrication process in order to prevent the grease separating in the relubrication unit. If very high speed parameters (> 1,6 million mm/min) are required in an application, the usual solution is pneumatic oil lubrication. The disadvantage of pneumatic oil lubrication is the need for compressed air, which is resource-hungry and expensive. The compressed air costs just for relubricating one motor spindle in three-shift operation can be €700 per annum. Insufficiently filtered air or the formation of condensation due to inadequate drying can also lead to premature spindle failure. The solution: FAG Concept Precision Oil provides direct oil lubrication in extremely small doses without the need for compressed air as a carrier. The innovation here is replacing compressed air as the medium for transporting the lubricant into the bearing by a damper/throttle element.
