Trickling Filters

The Trickling Filter is one of the oldest and simplest aerobic biological treatment processes used. These rotary distributor devices are mainly used for sewage treatment on remote sites. This device is used for low electrical power consumption, basic effluent quality level requirements and low levels of technical expertise. The trickling filter is also sometimes used as one of the stages of biological treatment, in a complex industrial wastewater treatment facility. Over a period of time the lower layer of microbes do not get enough oxygen and shift to anaerobic endogenous metabolism. The under drain system is a network of channels discharging into the main collection channel running down the middle of the unit. The settled sludge returns to the primary clarifier.
