Thermostatic Expansion Valves

Danfoss Industries, a leading provider of energy-efficient solutions, has launched a new range of thermostatic expansion valves (TE). This easy mounting range of expansion valves comes with a special Mix and Match feature which helps provide optimal flexibility as with only a few parts, one can design their valve based on refrigerant, capacity and connection. It delivers higher efficiency and reliability with the help of the Mix and Match parts program. This program makes it possible to select the exact valve for different refrigerant, capacity, connection size and support design for engineers to optimise the system and maximise the performance. Various design features like dual diaphragm, orifice seat assembly are also introduced to ensure long lifetime and reliability. A field test recently showed an incredible 22% energy savings; this test was carried out for the air-conditioning of a shopping centre. The system had screw compressors and tube heat exchangers. Due to liquid slugging at the start up, the contractor was required to re-set for higher superheat every time. The system was running at 10 to 12 K superheat with the continuous danger of liquid slugging. Along with low energy efficiency, it was risky for the system, time consuming and expensive for the owner. The existing competitor valve was replaced by a new TEZ55 with MOP +15 deg C, orifice 11 with factory setting. Water temperature was approximately 25 deg C but the measured superheat was only 10 to 11K and no liquid was present in the suction line. After reaching the final water temperature of 6 deg C, superheat was stable at 6 to 7 K. Both the contractor and the owner were very pleased with the results. The new range of thermostatic expansion valves covers all applications and is built up of four valve sizes covering the capacity range combined with the orifice program. The valves include thermostat expansion valves in stainless steel for smaller and medium sized plants.
