Breather Valves

Breather Valves (also referred to often as Pressure-Vacuum relieving devices) are recommended by API 2000, and are ideal devices for ensuring safety of petroleum / Hydrocarbon / Solvent - Oil Storage Tanks while allowing the tanks to Breathe. Petroleum Oil/ Product Tanks, particularly those storing highly volatile and low flash point products, are subjected to rising internal pressures due to rising temperature during daytime and also due to inflow of products. The reverse occurs during night when temperature falls and also when the product is withdrawn resulting in formation of partial vacuum. If these pressures/vacuums exceed the tank design limits, which are normally low, the tank can get damaged. Breather Valve acts as a safety device by releasing excess pressure & vacuum when it reaches a preset value. An additional benefit is the reduction of product loss due to evaporation as the partial pressure in the tank helps in lowering vapour formation rate. Breather Valves are best installed with Flame Arrestor for tanks storing products with low flash point. Penta-Tech Breather Valves are available in Sizes 2" NB to 10" NB. Standard models are in Cast Aluminium Construction with SS 304 seat rings in combination with PTFE seats ensuring low leakage rates. Other materials can be offered on specific requirements.
