A dead weight pressure gauge tester makes use of the relationship between pressure acting on the known area of a vertically free floating piston producing a force balanced by a known dead weight. Main component of the tester is the screw pump to generate pressure in the circuit of adequate capacity operated by a spoked handle, which permits easy and accurate setting of pressure. High-pressure calibrators are provided with a lever operated priming pump as well. Free piston assembly of special steel, hardened, tempered, ground and lapped to accurate size and very fine surface finish provides true floating action. Higher accuracy dead weight testers having accuracy of ±0.03% are provided with tungsten carbide piston assembly. Set of weights directly marked in convenient values of pressure and easily stacked on the weight carrier, which is placed on to the free piston, is incorporated. It is mounted on a sturdy base plate provided with levelling screws. A sheet metal cover covers the entire circuit. The calibration is done against master dead weight pressure gauge tester certified and characterised by National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi, using cross-float method. The instrument has the following accuracies: ±0.1%, 0.05% and 0.03% and is backed by tests and calibration certificates traceable to National Standard to meet the requirements of ISO 9000, QS 14000 and other inspection agencies. The dead weight testers are available up to 1000 kgf/cm² pressure range in various units of calibration, viz., kgf/cm², lbf/in², bar and MPa units. Ravika Instruments also manufactures precision dial pressure and vacuum gauges of accuracies ±0.25% with test certificates traceable to National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi.
