Liquid Controls India offers the F51 Halocarbon Refrigerant Repackaging Pump. This provides distributors of halocarbon refrigerant products (such as DuPont's Freon) and other liquefied gasses an economical method to speed up the filling of 5, 10 and 20 lb cylinders from one tonne storage cylinders. Since small cylinders do not have vapour return lines, vapour in the tank tends to act as a "cushion" that impedes the flow of liquid. The use of the F51 allows this vapour to be compressed as liquid is pumped into the tank. This allows operators to quickly fill small tanks without being required to vent any refrigerant to the atmosphere. As with any liquefied gas pump, proper installation is essential to successful pump operation. A one tonne refrigerant cylinder is usually equipped with two 3/4" angle valves attached to ½†dip tubes. These restrictions result in pressure drops that limit the flow out of the cylinder. If liquid is withdrawn too fast, a high pressure drop will result that causes excessive liquid boiling and possible vapour locking. For this reason, the F51 is operated at 900-1200 RPM rather than at its usual speed of 1800 RPM. At the lower speed the optimum liquid flow rate can be achieved. Because of the suction restrictions, the F51 pumps liquid that is actually in the process of boiling. While the pump is designed to handle some vapour, this vapour will create problems if it is discharged to the small cylinder. Any vapour discharged into the small cylinder will increase the "cushion" effect of vapour already in the cylinder. This vapour must be recondensed or further compressed for more liquid to be pumped into the cylinder.
