This was basically designed and circulated by UNICEF for rural and hilly area where clean water for human consumption is available at shallow level. BIS also formulated a separate standard of hand pumps for water table head up to 15 metres. The added features of this hand pump is that it delivers water in both strokes upward and downward, it also requires very little efforts to pump out water. These pumps are most dependable, cheaper and be widely used for rural water supply nation wide. These are: durable, dependable, easy to use, handle and maintain, having no effect on water, lighter and cheaper, high water dispersion capacity. Installation: after boring is completed the sand trap with cutter plug, well screen, lower casing, reducing socket and upper well casing is pasted with solvent cement and lowered into the well respectively and fixed to the stand. The cylinder with foot valve assembly and riser main, connected together are lowered into the upper well casing, this whole assembly rest on the reducing socket joining the upper and lowercasing. The pump rod along with the top pump rod and piston rod with piston assembly are connected together, is then lowered into the rising main and is then finally connected to the handle through the pump head.
