General and design considerations: Hexcon gear units are manufactured using best quality materials with high accuracy. British as well as Indian standards are used, as required. Worm shaft conforms to case hardening alloy steel, worm wheel conform to phosphor bronze as per BS-1400. Gear case: gear case is of streamlined design, made of close grain cast iron. It is completely air tight, dust proof and capable of being installed in open without any cover. Worm and worm wheel: the worm is made of case hardening/alloy steel, duly hardened, ground & lapped & is integral with the shaft. Worm wheel is made of chill cast phosphorus bronze and tightly fitted with CI centre. Worm wheel teeth are generated on precision hobbing machine. The worm and worm wheels are supported on taper roller bearings. Lubrication of worm and worm wheels is by splash of oil from the sump. Industrial gear oil No. 320 from any international standard brands is recommended.
