Mcpherson Strut Bearing Unit

SKF has developed a McPherson strut bearing unit that is suitable for use in Indian conditions; is robust and reliable. The product has resulted out of the experience and understanding of the company in the area of suspension. Aimed at reducing the manufacturers’ risks when launching a new product, and reduce the warranty costs apart from minimising field returns, the strut bearing unit uses SKF bearings and seals. These ensure a longer service life apart from downsizing and integration of components, which leads to weight savings. The strut bearing unit results in smaller component size. This provides more space for surrounding components; reduces fuel consumption and withstands severe environmental conditions. The strut bearing unit comes with a new ball set to increase radial capacity, provide lower radial clearance and increase overturning moment. The metallic spring seat has been over-moulded to lower deformation and stress. The seals have been designed to combine a full protection against external pollution, providing low friction torque. Developed for specific applications in terms of load, geometry of housings and protection from surrounding environment, the strut bearing unit enables the coil spring or the suspension to rotate during the steering movement with low, constant friction torque. It also enables spring rotation during normal suspension movements and transmits suspension loads to the chassis.
