Bearing Isolator For Electric Motor

Parker’s ProTech Bearing Isolators are designed to keep electric motors running, and avoid unexpected downtime. The latest product in the ProTech line is the ProTech Self Grounding (SG) bearing isolator, designed for use in electric motors; it not only exceeds IEEE841 sealing requirements, but also dissipates electrical charge at the motor shaft – with a single unitised seal component. ProTech bearing isolators provide superior bearing protection even in harsh operating conditions. The ProTech design provides unmatched two-way sealing for zero lubricant leakage and total exclusion of contaminates. This is accomplished by using non-contact labyrinth seal technology. Manufactured from first-grade PTFE resins, the production process includes a sophisticated system for controlling the critical sintering process and uses specialised CNC production equipment. And, there are ProTech designs that meet and/or exceed IP56, IP66 and IP69K tests for dust and water exclusion. These are standards set by the International Electromechanical Commission (IEC), specification 6003-4. Variable frequency inverter drives generate voltage spikes at carrier frequency that can travel down the shaft causing damage to the electric motor bearings. This damaged is caused from the “transient” or “stray” voltages at the motor shaft, this occurs even when the motor is properly grounded at the base. The ProTech SG was developed to dissipate this electric charge at the shaft to avoid potential electrical pitting or fluting bearing damage.
