PSA Nitrogen Generator

PSA Nitrogen Generator

Nitrogen is an important input for a wide variety of industries. It is used for inert atmosphere, sparing, filling, transfer, and many other applications. Nitrogen is abundantly available in atmospheric air, but to get pure nitrogen as required in the above applications, oxygen has to be separated from air. However, before reaching this stage, the air has to be rid of other impurities like dust, oil, moisture, etc, to ensure that air reaching the separation stage is pure. In most modem industries, dry compressed air is generally available and this is used as the feed air to the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) separation system to generate nitrogen. In the PSA System, oxygen is separated from the compressed air by adsorption. The system has two Absorbers containing carbon molecular sieves (CMS) which separates out the oxygen and allows the nitrogen to pass through. The nitrogen is collected in a Surge Vessel. Simultaneously, the other tower is rid of the oxygen (adsorbed in the previous cycle) by depressurization and back flushing of pure nitrogen from the Surge Vessel, to make it ready for the next adsorption cycle. Prior to change-over, the exhaust & outlet valves are closed so that the pressure in both towers are equalised. Nitrogen is drawn from the Surge Vessel at a measured rate thru the Rotameter. An Oxygen Analyzer (OA) can be used to measure oxygen content of the nitrogen being delivered to the User devices. A-1 Air & Gas Co manufactures Nitrogen generators in models from 0.5 m3/hr to 200 m3/hr with 98 to 99.9 % purity.
