Mica paper tapes

Mica paper tapes

Sahney Kirkwood Ltd manufactures mica paper tapes supported with different backing materials such as glass cloth, polyester film and polyester fleece. Depending upon the levels of binder present, these tapes are termed `Resin poor? (10-20 per cent) or `Resin rich? (20-40 per cent). Normally, resins present in tapes used for the main portion of the coils are in B-stage form. Under heat and pressure, the resins cure to form a hard, protective covering, ensuring electrical and mechanical stability. Several different types of binders such as epoxy, AV and silicone are used depending on the application. Flexible tapes used in overhang portions of coils retain flexibility even when they get heated during the operation of the electrical equipment. Application: Mica based tapes are normally used for the insulation of straight and overhang portions of coils of large electrical rotating machines such as motors, generators and alternators. Resin poor tapes are normally used for the insulation of coils, where the taped coil is impregnated by Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI).
