Dhoot Group inks pact with US-based Landrum & Brown for water aerodromes

Dhoot Group, the Kolkata headquartered company with interests in multiple sectors of the economy, has signed an MoU with the Cincinnati (Ohio, USA) based Landrum & Brown, one of the world’s foremost authorities in the aviation design space, to exclusively collaborate on the upcoming water aerodrome sector in India. Both the organisations have expressed their intention to cooperate within the scope of their mandates and their complementary spheres of competence to work towards building water aerodromes throughout the country exclusively with each other.

The Civil Aviation Ministry of the Government of India has been aggressively moving forward in their dream of connecting all parts of the country cheaply and effectively. Setting up of water aerodromes is a major component of this approach, and the DGCA has already issued regulations in June of this year, underlining the seriousness of the Government’s intentions. The Union Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari has emphasised that India holds the potential to accommodate 10,000 sea planes, and that there will be 60 water aerodromes in the Lucknow to Allahabad, Allahabad to Varanasi and Varanasi to Haldia corridor, along with the area between Delhi and Agra. Spice Jet has already planned to purchase 100 sea planes at a reported cost of $ 400 million.

Dhoot Group is one of India’s fastest growing conglomerates with interests in aviation, real estate, infrastructure, hospitality, power, manufacturing, finance, education, healthcare etc, was established in 1962 and has offices in multiple cities of India. Landrum & Brown, a firm specialising in aviation planning and development, was established in 1949.

Piyush Dhoot, CEO of Dhoot Group, said, “I’m delighted to sign this MOU with Landrum & Brown, a globally renowned design and development firm in the aviation sector, to explore multiple prospects in the water aerodrome sector. At Dhoot Group, we believe this sector to have vast potential in the next decade and thus are happy to be at the forefront of exploring the exciting upcoming opportunities in this sector. Our experience in the aviation sector in the last decade has proven that the people of India are ready and willing to explore air travel, and water aerodromes provide a unique opportunity to bring the country and its populace closer cheaply, effectively and safely.”
Debayan Sen, Associate Director of Landrum & Brown, said, “L&B is excited to support the Dhoot group in developing this important aviation infrastructure asset for the country. We expect Water Aerodromes to be a real enabler for air transportation and economic growth in India by providing efficient access to coastal lands and river basins at a fraction of the cost of roadway connectivity. L&B has vast experience in planning and designing of Water Aerodromes around the world, and with the proven execution capabilities of Dhoot Group, we foresee a very bright future for our partnership.”
