We plan to showcase our entire product range at IMTEX 2025: R K Purohit

Sphoorti aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India initiatives, making us a reliable partner for PSUs, DRDO, CSIR labs, OFB units, and space manufacturing units. By offering indigenous products, we aim to reduce dependency on imports, says, R K Purohit, Managing Director, Sphoorti Machine Tools Pvt Ltd.

How is your company serving the manufacturing and machine tools sectors?
Sphoorti Machine Tools is a pioneer in manufacturing tool holders for various types of tool turrets on global brands of CNC lathes, CNC turning centers, and CNC turn-mill centers. Our products play a vital role in holding cutting tools to achieve optimum results in machining processes. We are a significant bridge between cutting tools and CNC machine turrets. All industries using CNC machines are our customers. However, as an integral part of the machine, most machine tool builders are our primary customers, and many distributors facilitate the supply of our tool holders directly to end-users. Sphoorti boasts a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility equipped with high-precision machines from Hermle, Mazak, DMG MORI, Hardinge, and others.

How do you analyse the status of the Indian machine tools industry currently?
Since the tool holder business depends on the evolution of turret types in the machine tool industry, we closely follow industry trends. Starting from simple tool holders for generic CNC lathes, we now cover the entire range, including slotted types, VDI, BMT, VTP, and PSC (CAPTO-compatible) configurations in both static and live/driven holders. India holds tremendous potential for adopting the latest global technological advancements in the CNC sector. On the export front, we cater to most countries using CNC machines, with exports contributing over 50% of our annual turnover.

What is driving the demand for your products?
We are experiencing a surge in demand due to our world-class quality and competitive pricing, which have earned us satisfied customers worldwide. To meet this demand, we are planning to offer most of our products off the shelf to prevent delays in customer projects. Sphoorti's major USPs include its wide range of tool holders compatible with any CNC machine, ease of interchangeability, and a customer-centric approach.

How do you intend to tap the automotive and auto component industries?
The automotive sector is central to the machine tool business and represents a significant share of our market. Our B2B operations are well-established through machine tool builders, while our B2C presence is strong through sales partners, key customers, and global stockists. The increasing demand for electric vehicles is driving growth, but traditional automotive sectors continue to expand due to rising mobility in rural, semi-urban, and urban areas.

How do you plan to tap other end-user industries for future business growth?
End-user industries require tailored strategies, such as tenders, approvals, and localised trader support. Some of our dealers maintain constant contact with these industries for secondary business opportunities. Sphoorti aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India initiatives, making us a reliable partner for PSUs, DRDO, CSIR labs, OFB units, and space manufacturing units. By offering indigenous products, we aim to reduce dependency on imports.

How are you planning to tap into recent trends like AI, digitalisation/automation, and sustainability? What are some other trends that are visible in the industry?
Automation and digitalisation are essential for industrial growth and global competitiveness. All our CNC machines are equipped with HMIs, enabling us to maximise machine outputs and minimise errors and inefficiencies. We are increasingly leveraging digital platforms to enhance visibility and reach the global industrial community.

What are your plans for IMTEX 2025?
IMTEX 2025 will be a significant event for Sphoorti. We plan to showcase our entire product range, including the launch of new products such as angular heads for machining centers and PSC (CAPTO-compatible) holders in slotted, VDI, and BMT configurations for both static and live/driven tool holder versions. With these additions, Sphoorti aims to offer one of the largest ranges of tool holders, meeting the demands of our customers.

What are your growth plans for the company in the coming years?
Our performance in FY24 has been highly encouraging, and we are working on a war footing to meet the increasing demands of machine tool builders, end-users, and sales partners. Sphoorti is on a rapid growth trajectory. Beyond expansion, we are focusing on optimising the efficiency of machines, equipment, vendors, infrastructure, and most importantly, our workforce. We believe that business growth is significantly driven by dedicated and committed employees. Together, we are determined to establish Sphoorti as a major global player in the field of tool holders.
