Rs 4,500 crore plan for uninterrupted electricity in Thane district

Union Minister Kapil Patil announced that a comprehensive plan, totalling Rs 4,500 crore, is in the works to ensure round-the-clock, uninterrupted electricity supply throughout Thane district. Patil disclosed that the plan was thoroughly discussed during a district electricity committee meeting.
Patil elaborated that the initiative, which falls under the Union government's Improved Distribution Sector (RDSS) scheme, will involve the installation of smart meters for 34 lakh consumers in Bhandup (Mumbai), Kalyan (Thane), and Vasai (Palghar) circles under the Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company Limited. These smart meters are anticipated to contribute to a reduction in power loss.
"As a part of this scheme, a comprehensive plan worth Rs 4,500 crore is in the planning stages for Thane district. It will encompass all urban areas and extend to 850 villages across seven talukas within the district. Projects amounting to Rs 1,200 crore will be executed within the next two years, with the remainder scheduled for completion within five years," Patil informed reporters.
