Modine expands to India to meet growing data centre cooling demand

Modine, a global leader in thermal management solutions, has announced plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Chennai, India, by mid-2025. This expansion aims to meet the rising demand for advanced cooling solutions in data centres and stationary power generation equipment. The facility will produce data centre cooling technologies under the Airedale by Modine™ brand and cooling modules for power generation equipment.

Neil D Brinker, President and CEO, Modine, highlighted the strategic importance of this move, stating, “Expanding our operations in India positions us to leverage mega-trends like high-performance computing and AI. This facility will bolster our capacity to provide cutting-edge technologies for the growing data centre industry.”

India has become a key market for data centre investments due to its expanding economy, skilled labour force, and improved connectivity to Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Many hyperscale and colocation data centre companies have already established a presence in the country, creating a strong demand for advanced cooling solutions.

Art Laszlo, Group Vice President, Global Data Centers, emphasised India’s role in Modine’s growth strategy, saying, “Airedale by Modine focuses on research and development to design region-specific solutions. Our tailored technologies address critical cooling needs, from outside the data centre to individual racks.”

Matthew Powell, Vice President and General Manager, Air-Cooled Applications, added, “Our cooling modules optimise the performance of stationary power generation units, essential for data centre operations. This new facility will expand our manufacturing capabilities, enabling us to fulfil global orders by this summer.”

This Chennai facility marks Modine’s second operation in India. The company’s first facility, established in 2007, specialises in cooling modules for off-highway and commercial vehicles, as well as power generation equipment.
