Indian Oil launches first EV Battery-Swapping Station in Kolkata with Sun Mobility

The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) inaugurated its inaugural electric vehicle (EV) battery-swapping station in Kolkata. This facility, established at the New Town outlet on the city's eastern periphery in collaboration with Sun Mobility, signifies a significant stride towards promoting sustainability and easily accessible electric mobility solutions within Kolkata.

The adoption of battery-swapping technology has proven transformative for two and three-wheeler EVs throughout India. V Satish Kumar, the Director of Marketing at IOC, emphasised the substantial opportunity presented by battery-swapping technology in advancing sustainable electric mobility solutions. The New Town facility is anticipated to play a crucial role in driving the adoption of EVs and leading the energy transition in eastern India.

In the forthcoming months, IOC, in partnership with Sun Mobility, plans to deploy additional battery-swapping facilities at its retail outlets. This initiative aims to provide drivers with a convenient and efficient solution, allowing them to swiftly exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones. The implementation of such facilities translates to faster turnaround times, enhancing the overall convenience of EVs for users.

Anant Badjatya, the CEO of Sun Mobility, highlighted that this state-of-the-art technology is poised to propel mobility into the future and address key challenges faced by EV users, ultimately contributing to the seamless integration of electric vehicles into daily transportation.
